ACCOLADES

I was placed 3rd in the short story category (which had 400 entrants) of the 2015 Magic Oxygen International Prize for Tears in Hailar.  The story was based on my knowledge of a little known city in sub-arctic China and is intended to feature in a collection.

As of October 2016 I had won the Hour of Writes weekly writing competition 3 times and been runner up 6 times out of 27 entries. Depending on how you do the maths, this was a competition record.

Besides winning prizes in Magic Oxygen and HoW competitions I have been a runner up with Write-Invite and commended by Writers' Forum magazine.

ABOUT ME

My journey as a writer began as a nine year old writing extra stories for my school teacher, Mr Stead, whose encouragement was a great inspiration to me.

Fast forward a few years and I was an advertising copywriter for a marketing company that worked with some of London's most prestigious property developers. I personally wrote all the brochure copy for St. Saviours Knightsbridge,  one of the most excIusive residences in London at that time, and many more besides, including 1897 (left) in Richmond Terrace, Brighton. I was also a member of the Royal Court Young Writer's Group.

In 2003 my story arc involved me heading abroad for ten years, with teaching posts in Prague and several universities in China. I also wrote arts reviews for the Czech Business Weekly and penned a play for my Chinese drama students. An early 2014 return to the UK saw me brimming with story ideas that lead to me being placed 3rd in the 2015 Magic Oxygen international short story prize.

In 2016 writing success continued with three first prizes in the innovative Hour of Writes â€‹competition and I self-published my first book, An Insider's Guide to Culture Shock. In 2017 my article on paranormal Thanet was given a double page spread in the award winning Isle Magazine and I began a three year English Literature and Creative Writing course at Bangor University, where I am also working on a variety of quirky writing projects.
